Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva has announced the winners of the Karimov Foundation’s 2018 scholarship programme for postgraduate studies abroad.

The scholarship competition was announced last October, and attracted 320 applicants from 39 Uzbekistan-based universities. Of these, 11 contestants have been selected as winners.

They are:

1. Shamsiddinkhon Safoyev (graduate of Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent)
2. Izzatjon Asadov (graduate of the Gubkin Oil and Gas Institute in Tashkent)
3. Muzaffar Maksumov (graduate of the National University of Uzbekistan)
4. Dadakhon Urmonov (graduate of Fergana State University)
5. Nuriddin Burkhonov (graduate of Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent)
6. Akhmadjon Islambekov (graduate of Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent)
7. Akhrorjon Abdukakhkharov (graduate of Westminster International University in Tashkent)
8. Gulyuzbonu Ruziboeva (graduate of the Tashkent Institute of Architecture and Construction)
9. Aleksandra Kim (graduate of the National Institute of Design and Fine Arts)
10. Farkhod Rikhsiev (graduate of the Tashkent Institute of Architecture and Construction)
11. Stefania Abbasova (graduate of the National Institute of Design and Fine Arts).

I hope that the knowledge and skills they acquire during their time at overseas universities will contribute to the development and prosperity of Uzbekistan,” said Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva, the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Karimov Foundation. 

The competition for scholarships covered 13 priority fields, such as: renewable energy, chemistry; water and land resource management; mechanical engineering; food technology, food safety, food production and marketing; architecture, industrial and architectural design, and fine arts.

At present, work is under way to select universities for scholarship winners in their chosen field of study.

The Islam Karimov Foundation is a charitable organization founded in October 2016 by Tatyana Karimova and Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva in memory of the first president and founder of the independent Republic of Uzbekistan. One of the key goals of the Foundation is to provide access to educational opportunities for young people from Uzbekistan through merit-based scholarships awarded in various academic disciplines and fields of study.

Under the Foundation’s 2017 scholarship programme, a total of 12 young people from Uzbekistan have been granted scholarships to study for their master’s degree at universities in Germany, Italy and Russia.
