“Lullabies in the Moonlight” exhibition
The Karimov Foundation is delighted to present its latest exhibition project: “Lullabies in the Moonlight”. The project is dedicated to the history of the traditional Uzbek cradle, the beshik. The exhibition will open on November 5, 2019 at 18:00 at the Tashkent House of Photography.
The exhibition will feature the work of Uzbekistan’s best cradle-makers, the beshiksoz artisans, from cities such as Tashkent, Margilan, Andijan, Khiva and Gijduvan. Visitors will also be able to see a series of photographs detailing the traditional process of making beshik, from the preparation of the wooden frame to the application of bright designs.
The project “Lullabies in the Moonlight” aims to showcase Uzbekistan’s rich cultural and historical heritage by focusing on traditional crafts. We hope that the variety of pieces by a range of artisans, the precision of every minute detail and the originality of the colourful ornaments will allow the viewer to not only contemplate the beauty of our national culture but also to gain a sense of both the historical significance and the practical purpose of the Uzbek cradle.
The exhibition will be open to visitors on 5-25 November every day (except Mondays), from 10:00 to 17:00 at the Tashkent House of Photography (4 Istiqbol Street).
